Kesar mangoes are known for their sweet, rich flavor with a hint of spice, often described as a "royal" taste. They have a strong, pleasant aroma and a velvety smooth flesh. Some describe a slight citrus or floral note, and a "complex" flavor profile.
More details about the taste:
- Sweetness: Kesar mangoes are known for their intense sweetness, often compared to honey.
- Spice: A subtle, pleasant spiciness is a distinctive characteristic of the Kesar mango.
- Texture: The flesh is described as velvety smooth and juicy.
- Aroma: A strong, sweet fragrance is a key feature.
- Citrus notes: Some detect hints of citrus or floral notes alongside the sweetness.
- Compared to Alphonso: While Alphonso is known for its rich, creamy flavor, Kesar is often described as having a more complex and slightly tangy profile, with a good balance of sweetness and tang.
- Compared to other varieties: Some users on YouTube find Kesar mangoes more "fruit punchy" and with better texture than some other varieties.

🥭 Kesar – How to Tell If It’s Ready to Eat
Kesar mangoes are known for their bright orange flesh, rich sweetness, and strong aroma. Here’s how to know when they’re perfectly ripe:
🤲 1. Gently Squeeze (Most Important)
- It should feel slightly soft with a gentle give.
- Hard = not ready.
- Very soft or mushy = overripe.
🎨 2. Check the Color
- Skin turns golden yellow to deep yellow when ripe.
- A small green patch is still normal.
👃 3. Smell Near the Stem
- A ripe Kesar has a strong, sweet, saffron-like fragrance at the stem end.
- Little to no smell means it needs more time.
⚖️ 4. Weight
- It should feel heavy for its size, meaning juicy inside.
👀 5. Skin Texture
- Slight wrinkling near the stem = very sweet and ready.
- Deep shriveling or sour smell = overripe.
⏳ If It’s Not Ripe Yet
- Leave at room temperature for 1–3 days.
- Put it in a paper bag to speed up ripening.
- Once ripe, refrigerate and eat within a few days.
